(Note: Picture features the HV 58 Plus with Gold poles. This version has Nickel poles) The classic late '50s humbucker, made to original vintage specs. Enamel coated winding wire, scatterwound coils and Alnico 2 magnetics. We use an Alnico 2 bar as it provides a more diffused secondary field and behaves as if the magnet is 50 years old. Unlike modern pickups our HV58s are not vacuum processed as this reduces the natural gaps in the windings and it is theses gaps that are at the very source of the vintage sound Covered versions of the HV58 are potted in hot wax for around 60 seconds and have a slightly different tone to the open frame HV58s which are not 'potted' at all as they are designed to replicate the earliest PAF's and are fine if you use them with a classic amp (AC30, Fender® Twin, Marshall 50 etc) but will have a tendency to squeal when used with modern high gain amps.

Before you buy

These are raw, unfinished kits from a production factory, not flat-pack furniture. Expect to sand, fill and finish your instrument yourself, and expect the occasional scratch, dent or glue spot to deal with along the way. That is the craft, and it is why the result is worth playing.

Do a mock build before you sand or paint anything. We cannot accept returns on kits that have been part-assembled, painted or stained.

New to building? Start with an ST or TL kit, where much of the wiring is already done at the factory. We would not recommend a hollow body for a first build.
